Global platform for life science innovation launched in Qiantan
A new global service platform for life science innovation was inaugurated at the 2025 Global Life and Health Headquarters Ecosystem Summit on Dec 9, marking a milestone for Shanghai's Qiantan area in developing an international life science industry ecosystem.
The platform is a collaboration between the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau, the Lujiazui Group, and the Drug Information Association (DIA), a leading global multidisciplinary life science membership organization.
The platform's core mission is to build a high-level international cooperation network spanning policy research, AI technology empowerment, regulatory collaboration, and market access, accelerating the conversion of innovative achievements into products, enhancing Qiantan's resource allocation capabilities in the global life science industry, and building a complete industry ecosystem.
Founded in 1964, DIA connects life science professionals worldwide, providing a platform to engage with patients, peers, and thought leaders.
This year, the association established its Shanghai office within Qiantan's international economic organizations cluster. Leveraging its global network, DIA aims to support local biopharmaceutical firms in improving early clinical development, advancing research and development, accelerating clinical trials, and facilitating product listing, thus contributing to Shanghai's biopharmaceutical innovation and internationalization.
"We hope to strengthen international collaborative innovation," said Tong-Yan Wang, DIA's senior vice president and managing director of Greater China. "We will host more academic conferences in Qiantan to connect Chinese and global innovations."
Du Shaoxiong, general manager of the Lujiazui Group, highlighted Qiantan's strategic role in Pudong: "R&D and manufacturing in Zhangjiang, logistics and trade in Waigaoqiao, and company headquarters in Qiantan".
Du added that Qiantan will focus on enhancing its capacity to host headquarters of companies, deepening industrial services, and strengthening global connections to help Shanghai build a world-class biopharmaceutical industry cluster.
Zhao Yuan, deputy director of the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau, emphasized Qiantan's prospect as a global innovation and cooperation hub for life science.
The summit also saw the launch of the Qiantan Life Science Industry Ecosystem Co-Building Alliance. The first 30 members of the alliance, including enterprises, associations, investment institutions, and service providers, received certificates at the launch ceremony.
